Introduction
Volvo is the Scandinavian car of excellence. The Swedish manufacturer Volvo is very well known as a builder of super safe, strong, comfortable and very reliable cars. Volvo started around 1927 in the city of Gothenburg in Sweden. Gothenburg is the second-largest city in Sweden (Stockholm is the largest one). Even if Volvo is a recognized as a Swedish car, the company is now property of a Chinese multinational, The Geely Holding Group from China. However, the headquarters of Volvo are still located in Gothenburg in Sweden, so technically it is still a swedish car, manufactured with the high standards and quality of Sweden, with participation of other countries.
Volvo is one more of the great successful products that have come out of Sweden, just like the huge IKEA furniture stores that keeps expanding around the world, just like Skype that started in Sweden before being acquired by Microsoft, or like H&M clothing stores that keep expanding around the world with very trendy styles and amazing low prices. If we talk about music then ABBA is the biggest name that came out of Sweden.
A trip to Stockholm the capital of Sweden can help understand why this country in the northern cold part of Europe creates amazing products of great quality, a walk around the beautiful old town or around the river downtown is enough to see where the inspiration for all of these products is coming from.
It feels like a classic elegant car, almost vintage, but it is smart and modern.
The new 2017 Volvo S90 is one of the best vehicles made in the history of Volvo. As I seat inside the driver’s seat, I feel how Volvo has created a luxury and elegant large sedan with a beautiful Scandinavian design. The S90 is gorgeous!. It feels like a classic elegant car, almost vintage, but it is smart and modern. I am testing the S90 T6 AWD Inscription model.

Fuel Economy
Fuel Tank capacity is 15.9 gallons, it uses gasoline, with an estimated 31 MPG on the Highway and estimated 22 mpg in the city. Volvo is not known to have very low fuel economy. As a Volvo fan you know that you are driving an amazing strong car, beautiful and super safe, but not super saver. But it is worth it!
Exterior
The S90 is beautiful on the outside, it is elegant and simple. Superb! Light 19 inch alloy wheels, a beautiful front grille made of vertical bars with a diagonal slash with Volvo’s classic logo. Bright LED lights.
Interior
Leather and wood! The S90 is full of smooth leather, beautiful texturing and contrast, and elegant linear walnut wood trims. It has seats for 5 passengers, Volvo’s front seats are very comfortable, and the backseat offers enough space. Smart climate control with front seats cooling and heating. The interior of the S90, is very elegant, solid, comfortable, beautiful and spacious.
Safety & Technology
The Volvo S90 features several safety and technology features that come as standard equipment. Volvo is famous for safety. I remember how much was commented that Lady D and her boyfriend would have survived when she had her fatal accident in Paris as her driver was trying to run away from a paparazzi following them in a motorcycle, if she would have been riding on a Volvo instead of the Mercedes Benz she had that day.
In terms of Safety and technology Volvo deserves an A+ rate on the S90. City Safety and Large Animal Detection technology among many other features.
City Safety & Blind Spot Information System (BLIS)
According to Volvo, the S90 has been named a 2017 Top Safety Pick by earning the highest rating in the five crashworthiness tests and a superior rating for front crash prevention.
World First: Large Animal Detection with Auto Brake
I love the animal detection feature! What a great idea! Approximately 1.5 million deer, elk and moose are struck by cars in the US each year, with more than $1 billion in damage and approximately 200 human fatal accidents. Using the City Safety system, the S90 can detect these large animals and warn the driver of the danger. If no action is taken by the driver then the S90 will automatically apply the brakes.
Volvo’s City Safety system, detects vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists and now large animals to avoid accidents. It has been proven by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) to reduce rear-end crashes at 41% and injuries at 47%.
A safety system warns the driver via audible and visual that a vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist or large animal has been detected. The brakes will be pre-charged as the driver maneuvers to avoid hitting the object. If the driver does not respond, the brakes will be automatically applied to prevent a crash at low speeds. At higher speeds, the vehicle will slow as much as possible to avoid the impact of a crash.
Road Edge Detection & Run-off Road Protection
Run off road protections, Lane Keeping Aids that tries to keep the vehicle in the proper lane. New safety seat design absorb downward forces in off-road crashes, preventing major spinal injuries.
Semi-Autonomous Tech Standard: Pilot Assist II
The semi-autonomous auto system, Pilot Assist II, helps the driver with steering, acceleration and brakes. This safety system can be used on highways at speeds up to 80 miles per hour,
Boron Steel Safety Cage
To help keep the passengers space safe in a crash, the all-new S90 is stronger than previous Volvo’s sedans. About 35% of the S90’s body weight is made of hot-formed boron steel, the strongest type of steel currently used when building automobiles.
Conclusion
The new 2017 Volvo S90 is becoming the new Volvo’s icon, you just have to seat inside the S90 to feel how Volvo redefines luxury with a beautiful elegant Scandinavian design and semi-autonomous driving technology standard. The S90 is a gorgeous elegant and appealing luxury sedan. It feels like a classic car but it is smart and modern. If you want to fall in love just test drive this car, and probably like me you will feel love at first sight. The S90 can be addicted, I just want to drive it and drive it. Somehow it makes me feel with more class and elegance, like part of the royal Scandinavian family. The smooth but powerful engine, the beautiful leather and spacious interior, precision and perfection in the performance of the engine and the direction. Easy changes from speed to speed and total control of the vehicle, are some of the details that made me fall in love with the S90. The only con I could have is that the trunk is not as big as needed for some families, but it is good enough. In terms of pricing it is not a cheap car compare to other sedans in the market with a price higher than $56,000, however is still a low price if we compare it with the big players for mid-luxury cars in the car market like Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi and others. The Volvo S90 is unique and it can compete bumper to bumper with any other luxury sedan out there in the market
